Health, nutrition and fitness while traveling

I always panic before a long vacation because I worry about getting out of my exercise routine and turning to kelp. Does anyone feel any irony here? You should go on vacation to relax and take a break from your routines of all kinds. However, I have done more than my share of travel now, so I have found some great ways to fully and completely enjoy my journey while staying healthy.

The most important thing to remember, though, is that you should enjoy yourself, not think about whether the dessert from the Parisian bakery will make you fat. When is the next time you & # 39; is in Paris and when was the last time a thing made you fat? Enjoy it! Just don't go overboard. That said, here are some tips to keep fit while traveling:

-Eat like a local: If you are in a foreign country, it is much easier to find unprocessed, unrefined foods that are balanced and good for you. Nor do they have the huge portion sizes that we do in America. If you are mostly a domestic traveler, this obviously does not win, but keep the general guidelines I have on the whole page.

– Share dishes: Order a few small plates and share it all, or you can get an app, entree and dessert to share with two people. That way, you not only get to try a whole host of new things and more courses, but you can also cut down on the amount you eat.

-Make it an active trip: I found this especially easy in more rural places. You can hike, kayak, go rock climbing, etc. If you are in a larger city, you can visit the city on foot. You move all day and will definitely get your fill of exercise in.

-Find a gym: It's surprisingly easy in big cities. I was just in Johannesburg and Cape Town and went to the gym once in each city. Sometimes you have to pay a fee to use for the day, but if you are dedicated enough, it is worth it.

– Bring exercise bands with you: They are easy to pack and cheap to buy before you go if you do not have them. You can train your arms with these and you can do push-ups, crunches, squats and lunges your own way.

-Try new and strange things: Snails, spicy bugs, fishing heads, oh my! There are many interesting and unique foods you can try in other cultures, try it. No matter how strange, they are almost guaranteed to be far better for you than the processed foods we have in the US.

The most important thing to keep in mind is that you are on vacation and that you should enjoy, experience and relax. You never do that if you are stressing with the calories you are eating or how long it has been since you hit the treadmill, so just live it up!
